If you’ve followed college basketball at all over the last few decades, the name Bob Hurley Sr. should ring a bell – if for no other reason than the fact that he is the father of ’90s Duke star Bobby Hurley and brother Danny.
In his 36 years as the head basketball coach at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, N.J., Hurley has compiled a 957-106 record, groomed 150 players for college scholarships and coached only two players who didn’t end up going to college. Oh yeah and his current salary is $6,500.
A new documentary chronicles Hurley’s lifelong commitment to the inner city kids he coaches and the financial struggles of a school that has been name-dropped hundreds of times over the years on college basketball broadcasts.
