I haven’t really cared about a Super Bowl since the Buffalo Bills were in it and I was in middle school, but this shirt caught my eye because it presents the competition in language I do care about: pop culture.
I have no interest in who wins on the field or even watching the five-hour excuse for commercials you can watch on Youtube, but seeing it as a battle between the blissful and naive nostalgia of my youth and the gritty reality of becoming an adult and realizing how terrible things beneath the surface can be certainly raises the stakes.
Sure, it’s supposed to be funny (it is after all part of the Funny or Die line on Busted Tees) but it also leaves me with a feeling I rarely get from a T-shirt and doubt I would ever get if I watched football.
